The Sceptor acts as a weapon that fires psychic bullets, which are unpredictable and can also kill you. If that happens, search for the Scepter and pick it up. It is possible for this to happen before you see Anubis if he spawns somewhere dangerous. A sound will be heard when the Scepter drops. You can kill him with two sticky bombs, careful use of the shotgun, or luring him onto a Tiki trap. Anubis floats and shoots psychic bullets that can pass through walls and kill you instantly. The Scepter always drops when you kill Anubis. After collecting the Hedjet, go to Level 4-1. Note: If you die before this level, the Ankh will revive you at the start of the level and break, which then prevents access to the Moai, as well the City Of Gold. Once collected, go through the door behind you. After that happens, the Ankh will revive you with four health inside the Moai statue, and the Hedjet will fall onto you. On Level 3-2 or 3-3, a large blue Moai statue will appear with an Ankh carved into its forehead. Once at the Black Market, either purchase the Ankh from the shop on the far right for $50,000 or steal it. Use bombs or the Mattock to expose its exact location. The sound gets faster the closer you are. When the Udjat Eye starts to beep and blink, it indicates you are close to the entrance. The Black Market entrance will appear on Level 2-1, 2-2, or 2-3. Once collected, the Udjat Eye will show you the locations of items inside walls as well as the location of the Black Market. Note: One or both of them may spawn behind walls. If you find either the key or the chest, search for the other item. A locked chest and a key will appear on one of those levels. The Udjat Eye spawns on Level 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4. They are the Ankh, Hedjet, Scepter, and Udjat Eye. Next to the regular game there is also a number of secret rooms to unlock.Four items are required to reach the City Of Gold. While traveling between the areas, the player can come upon the friendly “Tunnel Man” who – for a price – will dig a shortcut, allowing the player to start the game from one of the later levels rather than from the beginning. Should the player spend too much time on a particular level, a ghost appears that chases him and kills him on contact. The explorer can also pick up items and smash them to reveal a reward or an enemy, or use the items as a weapon against enemies.Ĭertain levels are set entirely in the dark and in those sections a box of flares needs to be carried around. Money can be used to gamble for a secret rewards or in shops for weapons (bombs, a shotgun, a pistol, a spider web gun, a knife) or other items (a flying cape, climbing gloves, springy shoes, a parachute, an axe, a compass). Sometimes a key can be located to unlock a secret item in a chest, for instance to restore health. In certain sections the explorer can carry a lost girl or an idol (that triggers a trap, such as a huge rolling boulder) to the exit for additional points (or, in the case of the girl, for an additional heart). They can be used to create a path and often expose treasure hidden in the ground and walls. The latter is not only used to dispose of enemies such as spiders, bats, snakes, cavemen and the undead, but also to blast through certain parts of the level. The other basic equipment includes a rope to climb up and a number of bombs. The explorer also suffers falling damage when the distance is too high. He begins with four “hearts” (health) and when these are used up, the entire game needs to be replayed. The main character can move around, run, jump, hang off ledges and attack enemies with his whip (jumping on top off them works as well). The main goal is to finish the sixteen levels by locating the exits, but players are encouraged to collect jewels and other types of treasure. The game features four separate “areas”, each of which contains four levels and is set in a different environment and has different enemies. There are also some fixed parameters, such as certain sets of enemies and level themes that are introduced only from a specific level. The game consists of sixteen levels, but for each playthrough the entire level layout (general structure, enemies, traps, items) is completely randomized, making it an entirely new game each time.
